Welcome to the Hunt

This is an experimental site put together by David R Munson as a means to aid exploration of different locations in Japan by providing different things to look for. When we pay attention and look for some things, we naturally notice others along the way, which enriches our experience.

This is not meant to be a scavenger hunt in the sense that you come away with anything physical. You can absolutely document what you find, though, through notes, sketches, photographs, audio recordings, etc. Please don’t take pictures of people without their permission, though (it’s a jerk move).

In addition to it being an interesting endeavor to go around looking for these various things, you can also use the different entries on the list as part of an approach to navigation. There are lots of vending machines around, for example, and you could create the rule that whenever you encounter one, you have to make the next right turn. Or stop and make a sketch in your sketchbook every time you cross paths with a neighborhood cat.

This site is a personal experiment, something I'm putting together in my free time because I think it's interesting. However, I can always use some help with write-ups on proposed topics, additional info on published topics, topics and write-ups for topics I haven't yet considered, and especially with media (photos, videos, etc).
